This past Monday morning, a man involved in a 2012 accident near Eureka, which lead to the death of a trucker, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter. The accident occurred on September 27, 2012 around 5:00 am on Interstate 44 near Six Flags theme park. The 46-year-old man from Webster Groves was traveling west on the interstate when his vehicle spun out and came to a stop in the middle of the westbound lane after striking a guardrail. A 36-year-old male commercial truck driver from Rolla attempted to veer and avoid the stopped vehicle. However, the truck driver, unable to avoid the stopped vehicle, slammed in to it and overturned. The 36-year-old truck driver was killed instantly. According to a St. Louis County assistant prosecutor, blood tests revealed that the 46-year-old man had an alcohol level of 0.187 percent six hours after the crash. A second blood test, conducted an hour after the first, revealed a blood alcohol level of 0.167 percent. Of course, the legal limit in Missouri is 0.08 percent. Accordingly, the 46-year-old male admitted in court on Monday that he had a blood alcohol level of more than twice the legal alcohol limit at the time of the accident. The man faces 5 to 15 years in prison.
