Weight Loss Products Continue to Be Recalled for Dangerous Ingredients

It seems like everyday, we see companies recalling their products and adding unsafe drugs to their growing list. Here's another one for you: MyNickKnaxs, LLC has recently expanded its recall list to include nine of its weight loss products. Among the list are products such as Magic Slim, Fruta Bio, Slim Easy, Super Fat Burning Bomb, and Slim Xtreme. The main reason for the recall is that all of the products were found to contain phenolphthalein, an undeclared pharmaceutical ingredient that is no longer market-approved, and/or sibutramine, an undeclared active ingredient that is classified as a Schedule IV drug and was pulled from the U.S shelves in October 2010 for safety reasons. Topping the list for containing the most phenolphthalein (10.2 mg) is Reduce Weight Fruta Planta, a weight loss supplement that has raised carcinogenicity concerns. The FDA has recognized these dangerous ingredients to be "not generally safe and effective."

The FDA is also warning consumers not to use other weight loss supplements, such as Slim Max and Jimpness Beauty Fat Loss Capsules, because traces of sibutramine and phenolphthalein have also been found in these products. These undeclared pharmaceutical ingredients are not only unsafe, but they have been known to increase blood pressure and pose a significant risk to patients with a history of heart and artery problems. Individuals who have consumed any of the weight loss products listed above should immediately discontinue use, as signs of potentially serious gastrointestinal disturbances, irregular heartbeat and cancer have been reported. For more information on these products, consumers can visit the FDA Safety Alert Page.
