Ford expands recall

The Ford Motor Company recall has just became bigger with more than 447,000 vehicles added to the already large list. Furthermore, the recall affects the driver's side air bag inflator, which is made by Japan's Takata Corp. Likewise, when deployed, the air bags explode with too much force, shooting shrapnel into the passengers and driver of the vehicle. Originally the recall was limited to only humid states in the U.S, which only affected those primarily along the Gulf Coast.

Thus far, Ford is aware of one accident and injury, which was a driver of a 2007 Mustang. Additionally, there are a total of 10 other automakers with Takata air bags and they include at least five deaths and many injuries worldwide due to faulty air bags. In the U.S. 12 million vehicles have been recalled, and there are still 19 million worldwide with similar issues. In the United States, all owners can return their cars to the dealership for a free replacement of the inflators.
