Touchette Regional Hospital Named in Malpractice Suit

Meyerkord & Kurth, LLC: A Legacy of Legal Innovation

A woman who claims a doctor misdiagnosed her serious condition as an allergic reaction has recently filed a lawsuit against the Touchette Regional Hospital. The incident that led to the lawsuit reportedly occurred on April 24, 2012 when the woman went to St. Elizabeth's hospital with a swollen left eye and pressure on the left side of her head. At that time, the woman was sent home after being diagnosed with angioedema and being given a prescription of Decadron. However, two days later when the woman's symptoms worsened, she sought additional treatment at Touchette Regional Hospital. The doctor who saw the woman believed her symptoms were attributable to an allergic reaction and prescribed Benadryl before discharging the woman. According to court documents, the woman told the doctor she was not allergic to anything. Just a few days later on July 30, 2012 the woman's family found her confused and unable to speak after she had fallen. The woman was rushed to St. Louis University Hospital where she found out that she had a previously undiagnosed frontal sinusitis condition. That condition had reportedly progressed to involve an intracranial space, which required extensive surgery and care to treat. Suit was filed on July 25 in St. Clair County Court against the individual doctor and the hospital.
