Yesterday in New Jersey, six people died as a result of four traffic accidents on the state's highways. According to state police, the first accident occurred just after 1:00 am when a Ford Explorer driven by a 21-year-old male crossed from the northbound middle lane into the Parkway's right lane before crashing into a construction site, striking two construction workers. One of the construction workers, a 45-year-old male was pronounced dead shortly after the accident. The other construction worker, a 60-year-old male, was taken to a local hospital with nearby injuries. The second accident occurred around 10:35 am when the driver of a dump truck lost control in the highway's eastbound lanes and struck a Honda, which burst into flames as it was pushed into five other vehicles. The Honda was engulfed in flames and absolutely obliterated. The accident claimed the life of the three people traveling in the Honda. A woman and two children who were riding in other cars were taken to area hospitals for minor injuries and the truck driver, a 65-year-old male, suffered minor injuries. A third accident involved a motorcyclist who was killed when he slammed into the back of an International flatbed truck that was stopped in traffic. The fourth accident, likely a result of congestion from the previous accidents, occurred around noon when a man was killed when his passenger van struck a tractor-trailer that was stopped on the highway's westbound lanes.
