A major highway may be closed for up to five days after a fiery collision involving a semi-truck and a fuel tanker. The incident occurred this past Sunday close to 4:30 pm in Wayne County, Ohio when the two trucks where traveling west on US-30. According to officials, a semi-truck driven by a 22-year-old male from Mount Pleasant, Michigan failed to come to a stop while approaching traffic. Instead, the semi-truck slammed into a Marathon gasoline tanker driven by a 27-year-old male from Canton, Ohio. Immediately following the collision, both vehicles caught fire and were engulfed in flames. The 27-year-old was miraculously uninjured. However, the 22-year-old semi-truck driver was found in the grass median next to the trucks after being ejected from his vehicle. The young male was air lifted to Metro Health Medical Center to be treated for burns and broken bones. He remains listed in critical condition. At the time of the accident, the tanker was carrying 6,400 gallons of octane gasoline and 1,500 gallons of diesel fuel. The westbound lanes of the highway are still closed. The Ohio Department of Transportation expects that the highway will remain closed for around five days.
