Police are investigating a fatal accident involving a tractor-trailer that occurred early Thursday morning in New Jersey. The incident occurred at approximately 1:30 am on Interstate 287 near mile marker 26 in Bernards Township. According to a witness, the fatal accident involved a double tractor-trailer and an SUV. However, thus far, police have only confirmed that the incident involved a tractor-trailer and a passenger vehicle. The witness reported that the double tractor-trailer hit a sound barrier wall and subsequently caught on fire. Another report claims that the tractor-trailer collided with the sedan, overturned and then caught fire. Local police have confirmed that the truck was engulfed in flames and the New Jersey Department of Transportation also confirmed the fire. Another source has reported that the truck driver was killed after being trapped in the vehicle and engulfed in flames. The driver of the sedan was uninjured. Following the incident the highway was shut down. After nearly 8 hours, the highway was reopened.
