Man Charged in Crash that Killed Pedestrian

According to authorities, this past Wednesday, a drunken Belleville man struck and killed a pedestrian in Caseyville. The 32-year-old man was later charged with reckless homicide and aggravated driving under the influence. Police say the 32-year-old man was intoxicated when he struck and killed a 29-year-old man on Highway 157. Local police received an emergency broadcast from the Illinois State Police regarding a possibly intoxicated driver traveling on southbound Highway 157 after turning off Interstate 64. Shortly thereafter, police were notified that a pedestrian was struck along the highway. The 29-year-old man was walking on the shoulder of Highway 157 when he was struck and thrown 151 feet due to the impact. The 32-year-old man was taken into custody where he was being held at the St. Clair County Jail on a $750,000 bail. The man's criminal history in St. Clair County details multiple traffic charges, trespassing, drug possession and theft, according to court records. Additionally, records show the man is named in pending cases involving driving on a suspended license and a seat belt violation.
