A woman from Jefferson County in Alabama claims to have been infected with meningitis after being given a steroid injection. The woman received a steroid injection in her back last year allegedly from the New England Compounding Center's contaminated solution. The woman has filed suit against the New England Compounding Center and the medical facility where she received the treatment. The plaintiff received a steroid injection for back pain in July of 2012 and was hospitalized in October till the end of November. The plaintiff received a letter from the medical center where she underwent the steroid injections that stated she may have been at risk for the recalled compound. The plaintiff received this letter shortly before being admitted for treatment of her meningitis infection. The plaintiff's lawsuit is seeking compensatory and punitive damages from both defendants although the amounts have not been specified.
