Add another product to the growing list of defective products to come from overseas. The Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced a recall of 4moms Breeze Cotton Jersey Play Yard Sheets. These are cream-colored fabrics sold as accessories to the 4moms play yard. This product is being recalled because the sheets on the products are too small and pose an entrapment hazard that can lead to suffocation. This recall will affect around 1,400 units, and the product was sold nationwide for around fifteen dollars. Consumers who have questions about this recall should contact the company at (888) 977-3944 or at www.4moms.com. To date, no injuries have been reported as a result of this defective product, but the Consumer Product Safety Commission is still interested in hearing cases where the product might have harmed someone.

American consumers have a right to expect products purchased in the United States to be reasonably safe for their intended use. Manufacturers of goods which sell in the United States have to meet this standard. When they fail to meet this standard, they are negligent. It seems unlikely that reasonably safe would include the possibility of suffocation for babies and young children playing in the backyard. However, that is exactly the risk this product poses. This recall notice does teach a valuable lesson. Parents of small children should be extremely cautious in not only selecting what products to use around their children, but parents should also be cautious about where the products they buy come from. However, parents can't be blamed for assuming products which are marketed in this country are safe for use. Indeed, this assumption should be a shared idea, but it appears our merchants' quality assurance measures are slipping lower and lower with each passing products liability case that goes unchallenged.
