According to Ohio State Highway Patrol, two people died this past Thursday after a vehicle sped down the Ohio Turnpike at more than 125 mph before striking a minivan, resulting in both vehicles bursting into flames. Reportedly, two troopers spotted the speeding car but were unable to catch or keep up with it before the crash occurred. The accident happened Thursday night near Fremont, about 40 miles southeast of Toledo. Other drivers who spotted the vehicle called dispatchers about the speeding, weaving vehicle around 7:00 pm, about 20 minutes before the crash occurred. The 24-year-old driver of the speeding minivan suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was hospitalized for psychiatric evaluation at a Toledo hospital. The man has reportedly spoken with investigators, but further details regarding any contents of that conversation remain unknown. Investigators stated that the fires caused severe damage, making it impossible to tell if any of the people in the vehicles were wearing seatbelts.
