Motorcyclist Dies in Lincoln County Saturday Afternoon

A motorcyclist from Wentzville, Missouri died Saturday afternoon when he failed to negotiate a left-hand curve. The motorcycle went off the right side of the roadway, and the rider was ejected from the vehicle. Investigators are still trying to determine what caused the crash. The accident occurred in Lincoln County on Route J. What investigators do know is the victim was driving a Yamaha FZ1 at the time of the accident, and this accident occurred around 4 p.m.

With summer underway, the law firm of Meyerkord, Meyerkord & Kurth LLC has seen an increase in motorcycle accidents. This is typical with the summer months, but these accidents are anything but typical. Motorcycle accidents are typically more damaging to the occupants of the vehicle as well as the vehicle itself because motorcycles offer the occupants less protection. The protection offered to riders is increased when motorcyclists wear a helmet, and this is required in Missouri. However, Illinois is one of the few states that don't require a helmet. This prompts many Missouri riders to drive across the border into Illinois. Others disobey the law and buy novelty helmets which offer little to no protection but give the appearance of a DOT approved helmet.
