A California woman has been charged in the DUI crash that killed a 3-year-old boy on Friday. The accident occurred in San Ramon on northbound Interstate Highway 680 according to Alameda County Police. According to a police spokesperson, the woman charged is the wife of a sheriff’s deputy.

According to the California Highway Patrol, around 6:20 p.m., a black 2007 Toyota Camry parked on the shoulder of Highway 680 near Bollinger Canyon Road. The CHPA says a mother and her three children were in the Camry when a 2008 Toyota Sequoia crashed into the back of it. The driver of the Camry suffered serious injury. The three children, a 1-year-old, a 3-year-old and an 11-year-old, were transported to UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland. The 3-year-old died from his injuries according to officials. The other two children remain in critical condition.

Police arrested the driver of the Sequoia, a 39-year-old woman of Pleasanton after it was discovered she was driving drunk. She only suffered minor injuries and was arrested after medical treatment. Officials say she is a wife of a Sheriff’s deputy at Alameda County Police. The investigation continues. The family of the child killed is asking for financial help due to loss of income and the financial burdens.
