Two Missouri Children Killed, Parent Injured In Crash Outside of Kansas City

A five-vehicle crash just outside of Kansas City has left two children dead and several others injured. According to police, the pileup occurred on Labor Day near Blue Springs, Missouri in Jackson County. The report says an SUV rear-ended a vehicle and struck a second car that was then pushed into two other vehicles.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported the accident just after six p.m. when a 60-year-old driver of 2000 Cadillac Escalade rear-ended a 2015 Hyundai Elantra headed eastbound on Interstate 70, just west of Adams Dairy Parkway. The sports utility vehicle then struck a 2002 Acura TL and forced the sedan into a 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe and 2011 Ford Escape. Two of the passengers in the Elantra, a 7-year-old and 13-year-old, were killed in the crash. Their parents, a male and a female in their 30’s, survived the crash and are in serious condition. The Missouri family was from Warrenton. The 60-year-old man and driver the SUV only suffered minor injuries. It is unknown if the other people involved were treated at the hospital.

The multiple-vehicle accident is still under investigation by the MSHP. Everyone involved in the crash was believed to be was wearing seat belts at the time of the accident, according to the traffic report.
