St. Louis Woman Struck And Killed On Labor Day

|

A Missouri mother of two was struck and killed in a pedestrian accident in Richmond Heights on Friday. According to police, the 43-year-old woman was crossing Clayton Road from Highland Terrace at approximately 9 p.m. when she was struck and killed. The crash was heard by residents of a nearby apartment, and many people ran outside to help. A witness recalls the accidents, saying she heard a loud noise and rushed outside to find a woman on the ground with her groceries in the street. The witness said others were performing CPR on the woman while she lay on the road. Witnesses say it appeared that the woman was walking home from a nearby Schnucks grocery store.

According to Police, an investigation is underway to find out if the woman had the right of way. Police are also looking as to whether the driver couldn’t see her in the dark or if the driver was distracted. As of now, no charges have been filed, and police say the driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with authorities. The woman will be laid to rest on Wednesday in Kirkwood, Missouri.

Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Operation Combined Accident Reduction Effort (C.A.R.E) aimed to reduce the number of traffic accidents this Labor Day weekend. Last year, ten people were killed in traffic accidents in Missouri and over 500 were injured. With traffic accidents increasing this year, many more will be affected before 2016 is over.
