Fiery Crash On Dan Ryan Expressway Leaves Ten Injured

|

Almost a dozen people were injured in a three-car crash in Chicago’s South Side early Tuesday. According to authorities, the multiple-vehicle crash occurred on the Dan Ryan Expressway around 12:35 a.m. The Illinois State Police report the cars collided in the northbound lanes of Interstate 94 near 93rd Street, causing a fiery scene.

State police say it is still under investigation as to what caused the crash, but ten people, including two children, were seriously hurt. The Chicago Fire Department officials said ten people were transported to local hospitals. Seven of those people were in critical condition, while three others are listed in fair condition.

According to an eyewitness, a driver tried to reverse after missing an exit on the expressway. As the driver was backing up, another northbound vehicle collided causing a fiery crash that included a third vehicle. Police had the northbound lane of the Dan Ryan closed for several hours. Residents nearby were drawn out of their homes to watch after hearing the loud wreck. A witness told police that a car was on fire, and many worked to put it out. Victims were scattered about, and the scene was awful, a witness told police.
