Dispute Of Blame After Listeria Contamination

|

Blue Bell Creameries of Texas has issued a voluntary recall of its frozen desserts. After weeks of gradual recalls, the company finally decided to pull all of its products off the market. The company recalled its ice cream, sherbet, frozen yogurt, and other frozen treats due to a possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.

Blue Bell Creameries is pointing to the source of the contamination and says it is not their fault. The company says it is their Iowa supplier of cookie dough that was contaminated. In a statement on Thursday, Iowa-based Aspen Hill denies it is the source and says Blue Bell had their product for months before the test showed a positive contamination. The cookie dough tested negative for the pathogen before being sent to the Texas-based company. The ice cream was distributed in 10 states, and Blue Bell says no illnesses have been reported. These type of food-related contaminations are very serious. This is not the first time Blue Bell Creameries has had contamination problems. Last year, they shut down three plants in four states for four months due to a contamination linked to listeria. Three innocent people died from the contamination last year.
