Workplace Accident Kills Illinois Man

|

An Illinois construction worker has died from injuries suffered from a gas explosion in a workplace accident. The 44-year-old southwest Illinois construction worker suffered severe burns on a job site when a 10-inch gas line was hit and caused an explosion on April 6. The man was burned on over 70% of his body. Medical officials believed the man could recover from his injuries. However, last week the 44-year-old man died in the burn unit of a St. Louis hospital. Officials are still investigating the workplace accident.

Hundreds of construction workers are killed every year, and thousands more are treated for injuries from workplace accidents. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration conducts an inspection after fatal, or catastrophic injuries occur at a workplace accident. OSHA reports that almost 13 workers are killed every day on construction job sites. Many times OSHA investigations will find safety violations or negligence of safety procedures. The negligence of workers or companies can lead to deadly workplace accidents.
