University of Georgia Students Killed in Auto Accident

Four University of Georgia students were killed in a fatal auto accident this week. There was also a 5th female passenger in the vehicle that is in critical condition. The Oconee County Police report the fatal auto accident happened near Watkinsville after two mid-sized sedans collided. The northbound sedan collided with a southbound sedan at a high rate of speed on Georgia State Route 15. All five female passengers were under the age of 20-years-old, and all were in the same vehicle. The status of the other driver is unknown. Police are still investigating, and it is unknown if alcohol played a role in the crash.

A report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention list the leading cause of death for teens in the US as motor vehicle accidents. The CDC also reports that six teenagers between the ages of 16 - 19 die every four days from fatal vehicular accidents.
