Police Officer Charged With DUI

|

An arrest of a Maury County sheriff’s deputy resulted in a DUI charge last Friday night. The 44-year-old deputy crashed his car into a telephone pole resulting in him being charged with driving under the influence. According to the booking report of the Maury County Jail, the deputy was also charged with a violation of the open container law, violation of the implied consent law, and possession of a firearm where alcoholic beverages are served. The deputy’s car was discovered at the intersection of Hampshire Pike and Rutherford Lane, where he crashed into a telephone pole by the Columbia County Fire Unit 1 who notify the police. The deputy was put on administrative leave with the potential for further disciplinary action. A statement from the sheriff’s department stated the accused deputy is struggling with personal issues, and that may have led to this incident.
