Motorcycle Accident Kills Man in St. Louis

|

A St. Louis motorcyclist was killed in a hit and run accident this week. The fatal accident occurred on Interstate 55 on March 3, at around 12:30 a.m. The driver has been identified as a young male in his 20’s. It is reported that the motorcyclist crashed, was ejected from his motorcycle while traveling northbound and then was hit by an unknown vehicle. This vehicle then fled the scene, leaving the motorcyclist to die. The young man was pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation is still open and a vehicle description has not been released.

The Missouri Department of Transportation reported 261 motorcyclists were killed on Missouri roads between 2012 - 2014. Motorcyclists between the ages 15 - 25 years-old account for over 16% of those killed. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that motorcyclists were at much greater risk of injury than drivers of passenger vehicles. Many motorcycle accidents are caused by the recklessness of another vehicle driver and they should be held accountable for their negligence.
