Teen Pleads Guilty in Fatal Auto Accident

|

Almost a year ago, a Stillman Valley teenager was involved in a fatal auto accident that killed two other people. Earlier this month, the teenager plead guilty to two counts of reckless homicide. According to the Ogle County State’s Attorney, the teen was ordered to two years of probation with a number of conditions. The fatal accident has shaken the Stillman Valley community. The teenager was found guilty of speeding through a stop sign last September on Hwy 251 and striking a truck. The accident resulted in the death of two others and the injury of one other. The 64-year-old truck driver was killed at the scene of the crash. A 16-year-old passenger in the teen’s car was declared dead at a nearby hospital. A 17-year-old girl was also injured. The three high school senior cheerleaders were headed to a Stillman Valley football game. The various conditions of the probation include apologies to the victims’ families, counseling, 200 hours of community service work, not operating a motor vehicle and attending college or maintaining employment. The families of the victims were both consulted prior to the judgment.

Roadways are a dangerous and deadly place for teenagers. Car accidents result in more teen deaths than any other cause in the United States.
