Residents Injured During Nursing Home Fire

|

A fire broke out in a Cahokia nursing home causing several people to suffer from smoke inhalation on Tuesday afternoon. Firefighters responded to the fire at the Cahokia Nursing and Rehab center around 4:00 p.m. Even though the fire was contained, there was a dangerous amount of smoke. According to firefighters, many people, including elderly residents, suffered smoke inhalation and needed medical treatment. Emergency responders evacuated the nursing home and many were taken to a local hospital. The nursing home staff will transport elderly residents by buses to nearby nursing homes for temporary shelter. Authorities will continue to investigate the cause of the fire. While many were injured, no deaths have been reported.

If a loved one has been injured while living in a nursing home, having the right personal injury attorney gives you the upper hand when dealing with the insurance company. Personal injury attorneys at Meyerkord & Kurth, LLC, are experts with premise liability law and can successfully resolve your case. Many times, people ask if they even need a lawyer for a nursing home injury. However, beware of dealing with an insurance representative alone. The agent is working for the insurance company, not you. Like another business, the insurance company seeks to make a profit. When you negotiate with an insurance company alone, the insurance company can get away with paying less, using many techniques to lessen and deny claims. Our attorneys are familiar with insurance company tactics and know how to handle negotiations to benefit you, making sure you get everything your case is worth. Contact a St. Louis premises liability attorney at Meyerkord & Kurth, LLC, who is available around the clock to listen to your story and help you understand your legal option with premise liability laws.
