Parents of ATV Crash Victim Urge ATV Safety

|

The parents of young children killed in ATV accidents are speaking out, urging the importance of ATV safety. On Friday, a 10-year-old boy was killed when the ATV he was riding rolled over and landed on top of him. The accident happened in Kansas and the loved ones of the victim, Nathan Dolls, said their goodbyes at his funeral on Monday. With this accident being the latest of several recent ATV accidents, families are coming together urging for safer ATVs, as well as stricter laws regarding the handling of the vehicle. In 2014, 13-year-old Nathan Palmer was also killed in an ATV accident, and his mother, Jenny, has started a support group to help families grieve the loss of their children, as well as a campaign aimed to require ATVs to be equipped with 5-point harness seat belts. She is also hoping lawmakers will consider changing the law to restrict the use of ATVs to individuals that have a driver’s license.

Tragically, the majority of ATV accidents that occur each year injure and kill children. Inexperienced handling, speeding, design flaws, and dangerous roadways are often factors that contribute to an ATV crash. These accidents are usually preventable and the party responsible for the accident should be held accountable. Victims of any auto accident have the right to seek the legal guidance of a skilled personal injury attorney and it is important to invoke your rights if you have been injured or lost a loved one in an accident.
