Motorcycle Crash Kills Man, Injures Child

|

On Wednesday evening, a man lost his life and a child suffered injuries in a motorcycle crash in Alabama. The accident happened on Highway 119 in Shelby County at around 6:30 p.m. According to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department, a 32-year-old man was operating a 2014 Triumph Scrambler motorcycle when it collided with a 2002 Lexus SUV, driven by a 17-year-old female near Brook Highland Parkway. Emergency workers pronounced the motorcyclist dead at the scene of the accident and transported a 5-year-old boy to the hospital for serious injuries. The teen driver was treated at the scene for minor injuries. Authorities are investigating the crash to determine the cause and will release the identity of the victims once next of kin is notified.

Accidents involving smaller vehicles, such as motorcycles and scooters, typically result in severe injuries and fatalities. Motorcyclists are offered zero protection from the motorcycle itself and several states do not require that they wear a helmet. In the event of a motorcycle accident, the rider is considered defenseless and motorcycle accidents claim the lives of thousands of individuals each year. If you have been injured or lost a loved one in a motorcycle accident, you may have grounds to file an auto accident case.
