Elderly Man Killed in Pedestrian Accident

|

An elderly man lost his life after being involved in a pedestrian accident on Thursday morning. According to authorities, a 73-year-old man was walking along Atokad Drive traveling north when he was struck by an SUV at around 7:05 a.m. in South Sioux City, Nebraska. Tragically, emergency crews pronounced the man dead at the scene of the accident. The accident is being investigated and it is unknown if the driver was issued any citations.

Every year in the United States, the lives of nearly 5,000 individuals are claimed in pedestrian accidents and thousands more are injured. In urban areas, there is a large number of pedestrians that choose to walk to their destinations for exercise and prevent pollution. The large number of pedestrians increases the chance of an accident. Motorists should always focus on their surroundings to avoid a pedestrian accident from happening. Unfortunately, thousands of pedestrian accidents are caused by distracted driving, fatigued driving, driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and speeding. If you have been injured in a pedestrian accident, you could be entitled to compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, and emotional damages.
