A wrongful death lawsuit has been filed by the parents of a young woman who was killed while riding a Divvy bike after she was struck by a truck in July in Chicago's Avondale neighborhood. The 25-year-old’s parents filed the wrongful death lawsuit on Monday in Cook County Circuit Court against the driver and his employer, A&B Flooring Supplies Inc. According to the lawsuit, the victim was riding northbound on Sacramento at approximately 9 a.m. on July 1. When she turned east onto Belmont, a flatbed truck struck her. The woman was pronounced dead at the Illinois Masonic Medical Center. According to authorities, the truck driver received a citation for failure to yield to a cyclist.
The young Chicago woman’s death was the first fatal bike-sharing system accident nationwide. The Divvy bike system was launched in Chicago in 2013.
