Spices Recalled Due To Lead Contamination

|

The Florida company, Oriental Packing Co., Inc., has issued a voluntary recall of approximately 377,000 pounds of seasoning due to a lead contamination. The following blend of seasoning curry products included in the recall are Blue Mountain Brand, Grace Brand, Jamaica Choice Brand, Ocho Rios Brand, and Oriental Brand. These seasonings were distributed in New York and Florida as well as internet sales nationwide. To date, there has been no illness report.

The voluntary recall came after a routine sampling performed by the New York State Health Department who discovered lead in the product. Oriental Packing Co., Inc. has discontinued the manufacturing and the distribution of the recalled spices. The FDA is conducting an investigation as to how the seasonings became contaminated with lead.

All consumers are instructed to return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund. Customers can also dispose of the unused product by following state and county regulations due to the lead contamination. Lead is a serious contamination and can accumulate in the body over time causing serious and even permanent adverse health problems. More detailed information on specific recalled items, including lot numbers, can be found on the fda.gov website.
