Retired NFL Star Killed During Road Rage Accident

|

Over the weekend, former New Orlean’s Saints defensive lineman Will Smith was involved in a car accident and then killed in what police believe to be a road rage attack. Smith was operating a Mercedes SUV when he was rear-ended by a Hummer H2. The impact forced Smith’s vehicle into the rear of a third vehicle. As Smith and the driver of the Hummer exchanged words after the collision, the driver pulled out a gun and shot Smith several times and his wife once in the leg. Tragically, Smith was pronounced dead at the scene and his wife was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Police believe this was a road rage incident and are investigating the murder, as well as the accident. The driver was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. He is being held on a $1 million bond.

Road rage is classified as aggressive driving and causes multiple auto accidents every year. While this form of driving is completely illegal, there are several drivers that use their vehicles as a weapon or allow their anger to take control. Most car accidents are preventable and caused by a form of negligence. Have you or a loved one been the victim of road rage? If you have suffered an injury, property damages, or the loss of a loved one in an auto accident, you could be entitled to compensation.
