Work-Related Accident Injures Six

|

A work-related accident has injured six construction workers in Houston, Texas. The accident happened on Friday when a large metal scaffolding collapsed. The Captain of the Houston Fire Department, Ruy Lozano, reported that the accident occurred at approximately 11:10 a.m. and debris was covering the majority of a city block on the corner of Crawford Street and Preston Street. Lozano confirmed that six workers were injured and transported to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries. It is unknown what caused the scaffolding to collapse, and the accident is being investigated.

Construction workers, along with police officers and firefighters, are one of the most dangerous professions. While individuals employed in these positions are at a greater risk than other occupations for sustaining an injury, all jobs possess risks that could cause a work-related injury or death. Nearly all construction companies, and other companies with five or more employees, in Missouri are required to purchase worker’s compensation insurance. The insurance provides benefits to cover the medical expenses and lost wages of an injured worker. Unfortunately, the wages are replaced at a rate of 66.6% of the worker’s average weekly wage. The difference in compensation can add insult to injury, causing the worker to struggle financially. To recover the maximum compensation for your accident, it is imperative to consult an experienced St. Louis worker’s compensation lawyer.
