USTA Sued for Tennis Player's Slip and Fall

|

On Wednesday, a Canadian tennis player, Eugenie Bouchard, filed a lawsuit against the United States Tennis Association for a slip and fall accident. According to the complaint, the accident happened at the U.S. Open on September 4th. Bouchard had entered the locker room at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center around 10 p.m. when she slipped and fell due to a slippery substance on the floor. She struck her head on the tile floor of the locker room and sustained a serious head injury. Bouchard was unable to finish competing in the tournament and withdrew from tournaments that were being held in China and Japan. The plaintiff blames the accident for her decline in rankings. Bouchard is seeking an undisclosed amount of compensation for her pain and economic loss. The USTA refused to comment regarding the ongoing case.

Premises liability laws require property owners to maintain a safe environment to prevent individuals from sustaining an injury, illness, or death while on the property. Slip and falls, food poisoning, dog bites, and drownings are all examples of accidents that may be grounds for a premises liability case. In the event that a homeowner, property manager, or other responsible party, failed to provide a safe and well-maintained facility, they could be held accountable for their negligence.
