Pedestrian Accident Claims Life

|

A fatal pedestrian accident occurred on Wednesday morning in San Jose, California. According to authorities, a pedestrian was hit by a car at approximately 5:45 a.m. near the on-ramp connecting Monterey Road and Capitol Expressway. According to the San Jose Police Department, a male pedestrian was walking near the scene of the accident when he was struck by a Ford Focus. The driver of the Ford remained at the scene of the accident and is cooperating with police. The pedestrian was transported by ambulance to the hospital where he died from his injuries shortly after his arrival. Authorities are continuing to investigate the accident, and it is unknown if any citations will be issued. The identity of the pedestrian will be released after the family is notified.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention encourage all individuals that travel as a pedestrian, walking or biking, to follow all safety precautions to avoid a pedestrian accident. These precautions include utilizing sidewalks and crosswalks when available, traveling in well-lit locations, and wearing reflective clothing. Unfortunately, these precautions may not prevent many pedestrian accidents because the majority of these accidents are caused by negligent driving. Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, aggressive driving, and distracted driving are all common examples of negligent driving that causes preventable accidents.
