Man Awarded $9.1 Million in Medical Malpractice Suit

|

A man has been awarded a $9.1 million verdict by a jury in Minnesota for a medical malpractice lawsuit. According to the complaint, 51-year-old Joseph Lakoskey became ill in 2012 with flu-like symptoms and sought treatment at North Memorial Medical Center. After being treated for dehydration, doctors determined he was suffering from a perforated bowel and recommended surgery. Prior to surgery, rehydration efforts had been halted by anesthesiologists, which according to Lakoskey’s attorney, caused his blood pressure to drop and blood flow was restricted to his spinal cord during the surgery. Lakoskey sustained a spinal cord injury and paralysis suing Anesthesiology P.A. claiming medical malpractice. The injury prevented Lakoskey from operating his business as an automotive mechanic, and his quality of life has decreased. The jury agreed with Lakoskey and his attorneys granting him with the large award.
