Harley-Davidson Recalling Motorcycles

Harley-Davidson Recalling Motorcycles
|

While automakers are issuing record breaking recalls, they’re not alone. Harley-Davidson is on track to break recall records in 2015 as well. The motorcycle manufacturer has recalled 312,000 motorcycles since January, and that is three times the average amount they have recalled in the past. The most recent recalls have been for issues with cylinders that could prevent the clutch from disengaging, an issue with a saddlebag clasp, and a defective seal on the fuel pump. Consumers have reported six injuries and 35 accidents related to the recalls. Officials believe that the increase in technology is the cause for the record number of recalls. Last year, Harley-Davidson implemented new technology to cool engines, as well as new hydraulic clutches. Regardless of the issue, Harley-Davidson released a statement that the amount of recalls is unacceptable and that they will work to prevent further issues that could lead to additional recalls. Prior to 2015 recalls, the recalls spanning from 2011 through 2014 cost Harley-Davidson approximately $30 million.

Manufacturers issue millions of recalls every year for faulty or dangerous products. Unfortunately, these recalls are often issued after an individual has sustained an injury or illness. Product liability laws require that all manufacturers produce items that are safe and healthy for consumers. In the event that a product causes an illness, injury, or death to a consumer, the manufacturer may be held responsible for their negligence by filing a product liability case.
