Trench Collapses in Work-Related Accident

|

Emergency crews are working late into the night attempting to recover a man that was buried when a trench collapsed. The accident happened in Edmond, Oklahoma when construction crews were performing work on a concrete sewer pipe located near E. 2nd St. and E. Danforth Rd. At approximately 4:20 p.m. on Friday, the dirt caved into the 20-foot trench engulfing one of the men. The workers attempted to rescue the man by digging him out but were unsuccessful. At this time, Edmond authorities and emergency crews believe they are dealing with one fatality but are continuing to attempt to retrieve his body.

Occupations within the field of construction and industry are at a high risk of being involved in a workplace accident. Many occupations are considered dangerous such as police officers and firefighters; however, all workers are at risk of being injured or killed while performing their job. Worker’s compensation insurance is required for companies in Missouri that employ five or more workers, and almost all construction companies. The worker’s compensation benefits provide medical treatment and wage replacement to injured workers. However, the wages are replaced at a rate of 66.6% of their average rate that can cause a financial strain for those individuals. To recover the compensation you deserve, it is important to consult a skilled St. Louis worker’s compensation lawyer.
