Driver Injured in Semi-Truck Accident

|

A scary scene developed on Friday when a semi-truck accident caused both vehicles involved to burst into flames. The accident happened in Yakima, Washington around 11:30 a.m. According to authorities, a car was traveling along Summitview Avenue when the driver crossed the center line and collided head-on with a semi-truck. The truck attempted to avoid the crash, but was unsuccessful and after the collision it veered off the roadway into a field where it then burst into flames. The driver and a passenger in the truck were trapped, as well as the driver of the passenger vehicle. Fortunately, emergency crews were able to get the individuals out of the vehicles and the occupants in the truck were uninjured. The driver of the car was transported to the hospital for serious injuries. Yakima Sheriff’s Department is investigating the accident to determine a cause, but they do not believe drugs or alcohol played a factor.

Auto accidents involving commercial trucks typical result in severe property damage, serious injuries, or fatalities. Commercial trucks can weigh up to 80,000 pounds causing an impact to be devastating. While trucking accidents can be caused by the negligence of other drivers, they are more often caused by mechanical defects, dangerous roadways, and truck driver negligence. Anyone involved in a truck accident should receive a full investigation to determine if they have grounds for an auto accident case.
