DUI Accident Kills Police Officer

|

A Thursday morning DUI accident claimed the life of a police officer in San Bernardino, California. At approximately 2:05 a.m., 27-year-old Archie Green III ran a red light at the intersection of Fourth Street and Etiwanda Avenue. As he sped through the intersection, he collided with 40-year-old Bryce Hanes’ police squad car. The impact caused the police car to spin and crash into a traffic signal pole. Hanes was transported to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. He leaves behind a wife and three young children. Green sustained minor injuries in the crash and has been charged with vehicular manslaughter and felony DUI.

Every two out of three people will be involved in a DUI accident at some point during the lifetime, according to statistics of occurrence. According to Mother’s Against Drunk Driving, 28 fatalities are caused by drunk driving accidents every day and an individual is injured in a DUI crash every two minutes. There are numerous statistics and risks associated with DUI accidents, but unfortunately, they do not deter all drivers from making the negligent choice to operate a vehicle intoxicated.
