Crane Accident Caused By Sinkhole

Crane Accident Caused By Sinkhole
|

A crane accident that happened in Denver, Colorado is believed to be caused by a sinkhole. While a construction project was underway at a parking garage, the crane fell around 9 a.m. The construction site is located at 3330 Brighton Blvd. and one worker was injured in the accident. Fortunately, the worker’s injuries are considered minor, and he was treated and released. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration are investigating the accident and believe an underground sinkhole caused the crane to fall. The investigation is ongoing to determine if the equipment was faulty and to determine if the property was inspected prior to beginning the construction.

Construction accidents occur thousands of times a year and are one of the most common types of workplace accidents. While an individual operating heavy machinery may have a greater risk of being injured in a work-related accident, all occupations pose risks that could harm the worker. In Missouri all construction companies, and all companies with five or more employees, are required to purchase worker’s compensation insurance. The insurance provides benefits to the injured worker in the form of medical treatment and replacement of lost wages. However, the injured worker is often left struggling financially due to the wages being replaced at a rate of 66.6% of their average weekly wage.
