Swing Set Accident Kills One, Injures Another

|

A seven-year-old girl was killed Sunday when she and another girl were involved in an accident at a home in Gilbert, Arizona. Several friends were gathering at a home when the two girls were playing outside near the pool. The two girls were playing on a rope swing that was held by a wooden structure located near a custom pool. Authorities said that the base of the heavy wooden structure was rotten and had broke, striking both girls in the head and neck. The seven-year-old girl was knocked into the pool from the impact. A doctor who was attending the gathering, jumped into the pool pulling her out of the water. He attempted to revive her using CPR but was unsuccessful. She was airlifted to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead. The other girl, a 14-year-old, was also transported to the hospital for head trauma and a broken clavicle. Her injuries are non-life threatening. The spokesperson for the Gilbert police department stated that this was a tragic accident and encourages all parents to carefully monitor children playing in or near water.
