Michigan food market recalls turkey meat

|

A Holland, Michigan market is recalling turkey deli meat due to a potential Listeria Monocytogenes contamination. In addition, Earl's Meats is recalling the turkey meat, which was sold from Feb. 24-March 3 that may have been contaminated. Luckily thus far no illness have been reported in connection with the meat, but the owner is still taking no chances.

Furthermore, only about two pounds of the turkey meat was sold out of the nine pounds that Earl's Meats had, which makes the exposure very limited. The market found the contamination when inspectors found Listeria in raw dog food, which is also made at Earl's Meats as well; cross-contamination is a factor. A representative for the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development believe the turkey meat in question for Listeria is limited to the local area. Symptoms of Listeria infection can include the following:

  • Fever
  • Muscle Aches
  • Headache
  • Stiff Neck
  • Confusion
