Father killed in California semi crash

|

Thursday in Fresno, California a fathers quick thinking saved his families life, yet tragically ended his own following a semi crash. In addition, on Thursday on Englehart and Floral Avenues, a semi failed to yield at a two way stop at the intersection. As a result, the semi drove into the path of Serafin Garcia's car, and he made a fast, last minute decision to stop the truck from hitting his vehicle head-on. Garcia swerved the vehicle to the right, and in doing so the semi hit the drivers side instead of directly head on. Serafin's side took the most impact, and sadly he died at the scene.

Inside the vehicle was also Serafin's wife, and two children; one-year-old and four-year-old daughters. Serafin's wife and one-year-old child were uninjured, yet the four- year- old, who was sitting behind the drivers seat, was badly injured. The four-year-old suffered major head trauma and needed emergency surgery and a steel plate put in her head. She is expected to survive, but has a long road ahead to recovery. Police believe due to physical evidence at the scene that Serafin knew at the last minute the semi would hit his car head-on, and by swerving saved his entire family. The family has a GoFundMe account set up to help pay for medical and burial expenses.
