A man who allegedly overdosed on heroin while driving caused a three-car crash in Staten Island, New York on Saturday. When police arrived on the car crash scene, they found 38-year-old, Michael Sztropkayli unconscious in the driver’s seat of his vehicle, with a needle in his right hand.
Furthermore, Sztropkayli administered the overdose spray naloxone from his after the accident. Police also found three glassines of heroin from Sztropkayli’s vehicle as well. Five people were injured in the three-vehicle car crash, and all were taken to Richmond University Medical Center for treatment.
According to a witness, Sztropkayli was headed southbound, and swerved into oncoming traffic as he was making a right turn from South Avenue to Forest Avenue. As a result Sztropkayli hit a vehicle that was turning left from Forest Avenue. Sztropkayli’s vehicle had severe front damage, and was found resting up against a bench on the sidewalk after the car crash.
Sztropkayli was also driving with a suspended license for a previous DWI. Now, he is charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, criminally possessing a hypodermic needle, and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the third degree.
