BMW Now Included in Takata AirBag Recall

|

After months upon months of anticipation and speculation, Takata has finally agreed the best option is to succumb and finally recall all potentially deadly airbags in vehicles. Currently, the Takata recall is due to the airbags deploying with too much for thus sending shrapnel flying through the vehicle.

It is assumed that the issue with the airbags exploding with such force is because of the ammonium nitrate that is used as a propellant inside the bags. Likewise, when the airbag is destabilized, the compound causes a massive explosion. To add further fear to the airbags, it seems that the ammonium nitrate degrades in warmer climates when exposed to moisture. For that reason, the recall started out covering vehicles primarily along the coasts. Now, it is expanded to all States, and worldwide. Now, BMW is also included in the recall that makes the total of vehicles affected 420,000.

So far, there have been six deaths and dozens of injuries linked to the faulty Takata airbags. Just last week, Ford and Fiat-Chrysler added 6,000,000 vehicles to the recall, and now BMW has followed. Please click here for a complete list of recalled BMW vehicles.
