10-Year-Old Dies After Riding Six Flags Roller Coaster in California

|

How tragic it is to have a day of family fun turn into a horror story before your eyes. Furthermore, that’s what happened to one family after a young girl lost consciousness following a ride on a roller coaster. The roller coaster accident happened in Valencia, California at the Six Flags Magic Mountain ride on Friday.

10-year-old, Jasmine Martinez rode the Revolution roller coaster, and was later found unconscious yet still breathing. Martinez was then airlifted to a nearby hospital where she died on Saturday. The following Tuesday, the Los Angeles County Coroner said Martinez died from natural causes, and not from a Six Flags roller coaster accident.

Although there is no evidence that an accident related to the ride contributed to Martinez’ death, Six Flags has expressed concern and condolences to the girl’s family. More than 45 million people have safely rode the roller coaster since its debut in 1876, and is known as one of the most famous looping coasters in the world. It was temporarily closed following Martinez’ death, but has since reopened.
