Skydiving Plane Crashes in St. Louis Area

|

A plane used for skydiving departed from Festus, Missouri on Tuesday and crashed as the pilot was returning to the airport. The Fly Free Skydiving school plane departed around 3 p.m. from Festus Memorial Airport and after the four skydivers onboard jumped from the plane the pilot attempted to return to the airport. The engine began to fail, and the plane started drifting towards Illinois. The pilot jumped from the plane with his parachute and landed safely on the ground. All pilots of skydiving planes are required to wear a parachute, and it saved this pilot’s life. Crews are searching for the plane wreckage and believe it to be in Illinois. The accident is currently under investigation.

Aviation accidents typically result in fatalities and serious injuries. Planes, jets, and helicopters fly thousands of feet in the air at high rates of speed. As an aircraft crashes into the ground, the accident is devastating because of the force of the impact. Aviation accidents can be caused by the negligence of the pilot, the mechanical crews, or the airline. If you have been injured or lost a loved one in an aviation accident, it is important to contact a St. Louis aviation accident attorney.
