Second Deadly Crash Within Months on I-59

|

A stretch of Interstate 59 is the scene of another deadly traffic crash, the second within three months. The accident happened in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on Sunday morning when five individuals were traveling in an SUV. As the vehicle traveled through a construction zone, the driver lost control causing it to overturn. According to the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Department, 15-year-old Katie Elizabeth Hope Vann was killed in the accident. Four additional occupants sustained injuries in the accident and were transported to the hospital. The cause of the crash has not yet been determined, however, authorities are encouraging drivers to reduce their speeds when traveling through construction zones. Fines are severe for those who do not obey the reduced traffic zones, but not all drivers are deterred by these laws. The Interstate 59 location of the accident is the same are where a fatal accident occurred in September. Authorities are continuing to investigate the crash.
