Driver Sentenced to 20 Years for DUI Crash

|

On Thursday, a judge sentenced 29-year-old Joshua Lee Calhoun to 20 years in prison for his role in a DUI accident. The auto accident occurred in March when Calhoun’s vehicle struck another car that then collided with a third vehicle. As Calhoun was operating his Yukon SUV while intoxicated, he struck a Ford Escort operated by 44-year-old Stephanie Windsor. The Yukon then struck the third vehicle, a pickup truck operated by 58-year-old Michael Ingman. Tragically, Windsor and Ingram were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. At the scene of the accident, Calhoun admitted to drinking around 12 coke and rums and he has now received two ten-year consecutive prison terms. Investigators determined that along with operating his vehicle while intoxicated, Calhoun was also traveling at speeds of 104 mph in a 40 mph speed zone.

Operating a vehicle while under the influence of drugs or alcohol is the most negligent form of driving. All drivers are equipped with the knowledge regarding the risks and statistics related to DUI accidents. According to Mother’s Against Drunk Driving, drunk driving accidents injure an individual every two minutes. The DUI accidents that occurred in 2013 claimed the lives of 10,076 victims and injured around 290,000 people. Unfortunately, regardless of the number of statistics and groups that attempt to discourage drivers from driving under the influence, several individuals continue to commit the crime.
