Check Your Gifts, Recalls Issued

|

As millions of gifts were given this holiday season, many recalls have been issued for dangerous and defective items. Last week major recalls were issued for air conditioners, pressure cookers, candle holders, and lawn mowers due to defects that could cause harm to consumers. Currently, there have been 47 reports regarding Bryant, Carrier, and Fast air conditioner’s power cords overheating causing the cords to melt. There have been two fires linked to the air conditioners and one injury. The recall affects approximately 250,000 air conditioners and consumers are encouraged to stop use immediately and contact Carrier to receive a replacement power cord. The recall for Breville 6-quart capacity pressure cookers is due to the lids failing to seal and causing built up pressure being released that could cause burns. Fortunately, there have been no injuries reported. John Snowball, Esq. tealight candle holders are also being recalled after the manufacturer discovered that the opening is not large enough and the heat is too intense for the holder resulting in cracks. The candle holders are being recalled because of the defect and the potential for causing burns to consumers. The last recall of last week affects John Deere lawn mowers. Models Z445, Z645, Z655, and Z665 are experiencing fuel leaks due to the fuel hose being lacerated during production. No injuries have been reported, and owners are to contact John Deere for a replacement hose.

Each year, the emergency medical staff at hospitals treat individuals who have suffered injuries from defective and dangerous products. Tragically, many of these injuries are suffered by children and caused by the negligence of a manufacturer. Product liability laws require that all companies produce items that are safe and properly display any warning labels. These laws also protect the consumer in the event that an injury was suffered, they may be eligible to seek compensation for their damages.
