Boy Hit and Killed Walking To School

|

A 14-year-old boy was eager to celebrate his birthday Monday when he was killed in a pedestrian accident while walking to school. The accident occurred when Adam Renik attempted to cross W. Utah Avenue and was struck by a vehicle traveling westbound. The impact threw Renik into the path of an eastbound vehicle that struck him again. Tragically, he was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

The group of individuals that are most at risk of being injured in a traffic accident are pedestrians and bicyclists. While the number of pedestrian accidents is drastically lower than those of auto accidents but the rate of fatality or serious injury per accident is higher. Pedestrians lack protection from a collision with an automobile causing injuries that could be life-altering or fatal. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention encourage pedestrians to follow all safety precautions such as walking in well-lit areas, utilizing sidewalks and crosswalks when available, and wearing reflective clothing. However, the safest pedestrian is still at risk of being involved in an accident due to the negligence of the driver. If you have been injured or lost a loved one in a pedestrian accident, you may have grounds to file a case.
