Water heaters recalled due to fire hazard

|

If you have recently purchased a water heater from Canada, you may want to check the label. In addition, Giant Factories out of Canada are recalling 240 water heaters sold in 2014 due to a major fire hazard. Likewise, the manufacturer is recalling the water heaters because they could catch fire or explode.

A company spokesperson also states that in some instances the joint between the combustion chamber and tank that holds the water becomes damaged. As a result, the safety feature on the heater may not work and thus cause a fire or explode due to flammable liquids and gases. Also, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission advises to keep combustible materials away for water heaters as well. The recalled water heaters are as follows:

  • Atmospherically vented propane and natural gas water heaters
  • 30 to 60 gallon capacities
  • Sold between April and October fro $340-$830
  • Sold from independent stores located throughout Maryland, New York, and Pennsylvania

Thus far no incidents have been reported due to the recall. Please click here to read more.
